Having successfully logged 10 consecutive posts, this being the 11th, I thought it would be interesting to see what I’ve acted/executed on for Rate Game. I also want to acknowledge the challenges awaiting me in immediate future. So this post is a self retrospective of the past few weeks, with key lessons learned, and how I intend to use these learnings to improve my output in my race against time.
3 Areas of Focus
In order to properly self assess, I broke out the three core units within Rate Game that I’ve been simultaneously working on every day. I think it’s a bit pre-mature, and candidly ridiculous, to call them business units or other terms that a real company might use. Since it’s just me and a couple of people I’ve outsourced certain things to the current “Org Chart” and operating procedure looks like this:
So the 3 areas of focus have been GTM (Go-to-Market or how I will get the word out), Dev (aka designing and building the iOS app from scratch), and Digital (the design and eventual launch of the website; rategame.io). Let’s take a look at what happened within each area these past two weeks.
GTM
Key Learnings
Generating awareness about an idea with limited resources is extremely hard.
Friends and family are supportive but more in same way that the Milwaukee Bucks are with Thanasis Antetokumpo.
When it’s your money and your time at stake, things get done.
DEV
Key Learnings
Even the most simple, basic feature set is very complex and requires great attention to detail.
You don’t have to be in the room for things to get done. Trusting your developers is critical to your overall well being. Especially when you don’t know how to do what they do.
Your vision is not theirs. Do not expect them to immediately understand it at any level. Be patient and thorough in your explanation of certain concepts and features and why they are important.
DIGITAL
Key Learnings
A launch site is everything when you’re creating something new. Especially when that thing is a mobile app.
Generating awareness is not exclusive to the digital world. Boots on the ground approach is just as important when going organic/WOM (word of mouth).
Figma is an incredible design tool. I thought I was slick with Google Slides but Figma makes that tool look like the Minor Leagues. See below :)
What’s to Come
Lot’s of things. All of them different and presenting their own unique challenges. What remains unchanged is my desire to tackle them head on and deliver on my promise. The stakes grow higher with each passing day. So too does my will to survive and advance.
Until tomorrow!
Loved the key learnings 🔑 so cool to see the takeaways as you go
